PONDA: Accusing the BJP of keeping the Opposition parties in the dark on the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) election date, MGP leader and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar alleged that the ruling party’s campaign began 15 days prior to the poll announcement, which ensured its victory.
“The Opposition including the MGP didn’t have an opportunity to campaign due to the sudden poll date. Therefore, the MGP even wrote a letter to the Election Commission to declare the election date and to give some time for campaigning to the opposition parties. However, the election was declared all of a sudden giving no time to Congress, MGP, AAP, NCP and other parties,” said Sudin.
He added that 12 rebel Congress MLAs joining the BJP also made a difference.
“There were agitations over various issues including Mhadei, however, there was no unity among the Opposition as they were not coming on one platform, which also helped the BJP win the elections. If there was unity there could have been a different result. Considering the result, it appears there is a need among opposition to form an alliance but whether Congress is ready for it is another question,” he added.
