PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) President Pandurang (Deepak) Dhavalikar on Tuesday said his party supports the ban on cow slaughter in the State, and said that the Goa Meat Complex at Usgao needs to be closed down.
Reacting to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s demand, for a law banning cow slaughter in Goa, Dhavalikar, speaking to Herald said, “We support ban on cow slaughter in Goa as suggested by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, even Goa Meat Complex at Usgao needs to be closed down.”
He added, “If the new government wants to do something good, they should close down the Goa Meat Complex at Usgao, and slaughter should completely be banned in Goa. I am not only talking about illegal slaughter houses but speaking of an overall ban.”
However, Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo, reacting to Bhagwat’s demand for a law banning cow slaughter in Goa, said that ‘such politics will never enter Goa’.
“The issue in Goa will never come up. It is the 33 percent of the minority’s eating habit. Nobody in Goa talks about such politics, nobody speaks about beef politics,” he said adding that cow slaughter in India has been banned for several years since the Congress rule.
