PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) is set to formally withdraw from its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday.
Speaking to Herald, MGP General Secretary Lavoo Mamledar said, “Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party will withdraw support to BJP tomorrow at 11 am and before this our members and leaders will have a meeting at which the decision will be finalised.”
He added, “Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party will contest in 22 seats and we are ready to go for elections on February 4. MGP in the past had already said that we will withdraw support and quit the alliance soon after the election dates are announced and tomorrow we are ready to quit. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party’s central committee will also meet tomorrow to discuss the future strategy of the party.”
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party president Pandurang (Deepak) Dhavalikar had earlier said, “MGP had agreed to a pre-poll alliance with BJP in 2012. We will continue to extend support to this government as MGP is a party that keeps words. But once the Election Code of Conduct comes into force, our central committee will take a decision after which we will reveal all the decisions taken.”
