MGP to unite, take minorities into its fold

Approves to extend central committee term by two years; No talks on Mhadei water dispute till the tribunal disposes the matter

PANJIM: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has decided to unite and take into its fold the minorities who are currently away from the party.
The MGP at its annual general body meeting held on Sunday at Porvorim also resolved to extend the term of central committee by another two years.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said the annual general body has unanimously approved to extend the term of central committee by two years.
“To unite Catholic and Muslim communities is one of the major decisions of the party which has been taken at the general body meeting. Presently, they are away from our party but we will try to get these two communities together. We will hold talks with them and their leaders as well as prominent intellectual writers”, he said.
He informed that the party will commence work in all 40 constituencies from February 2018 onwards.
“We will strengthen our roots in all 40 constituencies by forming the constituency committees”, he said.
Replying to a question on the coal issue in the State, Dhavalikar said that the people have objected to the handling of coal only after companies abused the permission granted.
He ruled out the possibility of MGP’s merger and informed that it was only a rumour.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has said that no talk shall be taken up on Mhadei water dispute till the tribunal disposes the matter before it.
Dhavalikar said that the MGP took taken the decision in its general body meeting. He also informed that all three MGP MLAs have also decided the same.
“This party belongs to the Bahujan Samaj and we are trying to take up all issues of the common people. Till the decision of tribunal comes out, no talk to be taken up on Mhadei water dispute,” he said.
The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is under fire from his own Cabinet colleagues and activists across State following the letter to the Karnataka BJP chief that the State can consider giving Mhadei water for drinking needs.
On Saturday, the activists held a protest in Panjim demanding to withdraw the letter given by Parrikar to Karnataka BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa.
