PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party’s (MGP) fate on its induction in the government hangs in balance as 80 per cent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs-elect have expressed their displeasure on joining hands with the regional party.
BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade confirmed that a majority of the MLAs are not happy with MGP’s support to the BJP for the formation of government. “Many have expressed their apprehensions on MGP’s move to support BJP. The objection has also come from around 80 per cent of the MLAs and several karyakartas, and they have conveyed their opinion to me as well,” he said.
On being asked on BJP’s decision, Tanavade said, the final call rests with the party leadership. He said that anti-MGP voice has directly reached the Centre too.
He further said that the swearing in ceremony of the new government would be held only after Holi along with the three other States of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Manipur where the party has won.
Tanavade said that since the tenure of Goa Legislative Assembly expires on March 15, the Governor has already appointed a pro-tem Speaker who would administer the oath to newly elected members on Tuesday.
To another question on differences within the party over the leadership issue, the BJP chief dismissed the allegations stating that there are no differences and the Central leadership will decide on Goa’s CM post.
