PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the joint monitoring committee comprising superintending engineers of three States – Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra, who inspected the Mhadei water diversion site at Kankumbhi, Karnataka were not unanimous on the findings while preparing the report.
The joint inspection committee was constituted as per the directives of the Supreme Court while hearing a contempt petition filed by the Goa government against Karnataka for allegedly illegally diverting the waters of River Mhadei to the Malaprabha basin. The report will be submitted to the apex court by April 5.
Sawant said that the superintendent engineers of three States will meet again and discuss the matter.
Water Resources Chief Engineer Shrikant Patil said the joint inspection committee could not meet on Tuesday. “The joint inspection committee could not meet today (Tuesday). They will meet as per their convenience and finalise the report,” Patil said, adding that the report will be submitted to the Supreme Court by April 5.
On February 22, the Supreme Court had directed the constitution of a joint inspection team comprising engineers of the three States, to visit the water diversion site along the Mhadei River basin and to submit the report within four weeks.
