The much anticipated hearing concerning the critical Mhadei matter at the Supreme Court, was absent from Thursday’s docket as well. Advocate General Devidas Pangam confirmed the postponement, citing that the case is now slated for the upcoming week. AG Pangam has said that as the matter could not come up as some other matter was going on. He said that the matter is likely to be listed for hearing on December 6.
The Mhadei river dispute, a contentious issue between Karnataka and Goa, has been a subject of intense legal scrutiny for years. The dispute revolves around the sharing of the Mhadei river’s waters, with both states staking claim to its resources, leading to prolonged legal battles and regional tensions.
However, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday affirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to the Mhadei issue, emphasizing the rigorous efforts being undertaken. The Advocate General and the entire panel are actively conducting reviews, bolstered by the assurance that Goa’s strong evidence will lead to a favourable outcome in the Supreme Court. CM stated that the Karnataka government has not yet submitted any paperwork and that Goa has a strong case before the Supreme Court.
