PANJIM: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo is all set to join the Congress according to reliable sources close to him.

The MLA, who has been attacking his own party off late, is likely to resign on Monday morning and join the Congress party later in the day.

Lobo’s decision is unlikely to be accepted by the rank and file of the Congress. There are already rumblings that the trio of Agnelo Fernandes, Joseph Sequeira and Anthony Menezes will be compelled to take some extreme steps. Lobo’s sudden joining and his claim over three constituencies has upset many Congress workers. The president of the Block Congress in Saligao resigned on Sunday after Micheal Lobo decided to descend on the Saligao constituency and campaigned for the likely Congress candidate Kedar Naik (Detailed story on Page 2). Lobo’s move and the Congress Party’s acceptance of Lobo signals absolute desperation of the party which is prepared to even outsource candidates in an effort to win.
