PANJIM: Former minister Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco walked out of jail on Saturday, a little over one and half months before the completion of his six-month jail sentence.
Inspector General of Prisons Elvis Gomes confirmed that Pacheco was released as he was eligible for remission. “Some sentenced prisoners are entitled for remission and Pacheco came in this category. His work and behavior was also looked at into making him eligible for an early release,” he said.
Pacheco, qaidi (prisoner) number 53 while in Sada sub jail, was arrested after he surrendered before the judicial magistrate first class, Margao on June 1, 2015. He was lodged in cell number 14.
During the Goa Vikas Party chief’s sentence period, there was speculation that he would be shifted to the recently-commissioned Colvale jail. He, however, served his term at Sada jail.
