MARGAO: Billed as a semi-final between Goa Vikas Party supremo Mickky Pacheco and his challenger Wilfred D’Sa before the duo take on each other in the 2017 Assembly polls, all eyes are now focused on the Nuvem Zilla Panchayat constituency as election officials brace up to take up counting of votes on Friday.
While Wilfred exuded confidence of storming into the semis by defeating Mickky’s handpicked candidate Marcelinho Faria, the GVP supremo reminded that he is already in the finals and his challenger will have to first edge past his candidate in tomorrow’s counting before taking him in the 2017 Assembly poll. “I am already in the finals as the sitting Nuvem MLA. Let Wilfred win tomorrow’s election against my candidate and meet me in the finals”, Mickky said, while asserting that the victory of his candidate in Nuvem is a foregone conclusion.
Referring to Wilfred’s statement that his calculations will go haywire as he is not good in mathematics since his school days, Mickky shot back “my opponent will come to know on Friday when the ballots are opened who is good in Math and calculations”.
Wilfred, on the other hand, exuded confidence that Wednesday’s polling has gone in his favour in all the three villages of Nuvem, Nagoa and Verna. When Herald drew his attention to reports that Mickky had gone all out on the eve of the election to wrest the seat from him, Wilfred said, “I know that my opponents used every trick to wean away my workers and voters. But I am confident that Mickky will not succeed”.
Mickky, however, was not ready to buy the argument that his candidate will loose in Nuvem against his arch rival. “I can say with confidence that though my candidate will be slightly down in Guirim, Murda Grande, the GVP flag will fly in the rest of Nuvem”, the GVP supremo asserted.
