‘Inmates carry laptops, liquor and drugs in Sada sub jail’
PANJIM, JULY 29
The controversy-ridden former Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco recalled the circumstances he encountered while in 14-day police custody and a day in judicial custody.
He was speaking on his second day in the assembly session since his arrest on July 8 in the Nadia Torrado death case.
“I was in the Sada sub jail for one day. Whatever is not available outside the jail is accessible inside. The inmates carry laptops, liquor, grass (drugs)…This is the dark reality. Who is responsible,” he questioned.
Pacheco recalled that one of the inmates called up a minister offering ‘supari’ to attack him (Pacheco) in the cell, where he was lodged.
“As soon as I entered the cell, that inmate telephoned a minister asking him to deposit money in his bank account and he will break my legs,” he said.
Referring to allegations levelled against him in Nadia death case, the legislator said that there were non-governmental organizations (NGOs) moving around with a ratol tube making statement against him.
He alleged that the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat entertained unregistered NGOs, who were making a business in the guise of social work.
The recently bailed out legislator demanded stripping off the Home Ministry portfolio from Ravi Naik.
“Naik has failed to manage the police department…Since the assembly session has commenced, he did not make his presence felt in the house…who is running the affairs of the department now? If he can’t manage, the portfolio should be handed over to someone else,” he said.
The home minister is undergoing medical treatment in a Mumbai hospital, due to which he is absent in the on-going monsoon session right from its first day till date.
Expressing concern over the increasing acquittals, the Benaulim legislator maintained that police officials should not be awarded in such cases.
“A police officer investigating the serial killer Mahanand Naik was awarded medals. But the accused is already acquitted in three of 16 cases registered against him and remaining are pending in the court. How can we be sure that Mahanand will not be acquitted in the other cases too,” Pacheco remarked.
Speaking on the sensational police-politician-drug mafia nexus case, Pacheco demanded action against all those involved in the case including the son (Roy) of the home minister, “whose name figured in the international media.”
