MARGAO: Condemning the irresponsible statements made by Vishwa Hindu Parishad at their convention at Fatorda on Sunday, hurting the sentiments of the Christian brethren, Goa Vikas Party supremo and RDA Minister, Mickky Pacheco has warned that the people of Goa will hold the VHP and its leaders responsible for any action and reactions arising out of such irresponsible statements.
Saying that these statements are aimed at spewing venom and creating hatred amongst various communities in Goa, Mickky said he will ask the BJP government in the State to take cognisance of these statements and take necessary action.
Addressing the media, Mickky said the people of Goa will hold the VHP and its leaders responsible for any actions and reactions arising out of such irresponsible statements.
When the media asked him whether the GVP was feeling the heat in the minority areas following the statement by VHP and RSS leaders in view of the ensuing Zilla Panchayat elections, Mickky shot back, “It is not like that. These people cannot be allowed to disturb the peace and communal harmony in the State.”
“The attempt made by certain leaders at Fatorda by their speeches is nothing short of sowing the seeds of dissent and discord amongst various religions and trying to put one religion against the other. The people of Goa are united irrespective of their religious affiliations and such fanatics will never succeed in creating rift and dividing the people on religious lines,” Mickky said, while warning that such elements should not take the people of Goa for granted as the people are capable of rising to the occasion and giving a befitting reply as and when the occasion demands.
“The GVP requests these sick and fanatic minds to keep their fanaticism in their sick minds only and at their homes, failing which GVP will take the lead in leading the secular and peace maintaining people of Goa, irrespective of their religion, in showing such fanatics their due place,” Mickky said.
GVP general secretary Lyndon Monteiro said that the VHP leaders are out to sow the seeds of discord amongst the Goan people.
