MARGAO: Goa Vikas Party supremo Mickky Pacheco on Tuesday asserted that the Chairperson of the South Goa Zilla Panchayat would be from the BJP-MGP-GVP alliance, even as he said that the GVP would request the alliance leaders to support Nelly Rodrigues for the coveted post.
Reacting to the decision of the Independent group to support Nelly for the post of South Goa ZP Chairperson, Mickky demanded to know whether the group of 12 Independents can elect their person for the top post. He also sought to know whether the body formed with the help of Independents will lead to stability in the ZIlla Panchayat.
When asked whether the GVP would stake claim for the post of Chairperson in favour of four-time ZP member Nelly Rodrigues, Mickky said “I have made a request to the Alliance leaders to consider Nelly’s candidature for the top post. However, one also needs to understand the ground realities given the composition of the Alliance,” he said.
Mickky, however, said that he was instrumental in getting the BJP support Nelly’s candidature for the post of chairperson in the outgoing body. “The situation is not clear yet. A clear picture will emerge in the next few days,” he added.
Meanwhile, Nelly said that she has not taken any decision on the offer made by the Independent group to support her candidature for the post of Chairperson.
In the meantime, the newly-elected members of the South Goa Zilla Panchayat members will meet in the South Goa district Collectorate to take oath of office on Wednesday.
