MORJIM: In a tragic incident, a 28-year-old migrant labourer, identified as Bin Tirki from Jharkhand, is suspected to have taken his own life by throwing himself under a running KTC bus at Morjim.
Initially perceived as an accidental death, suspicions arose, prompting a check of the CCTV footage from cameras installed by the Morjim panchayat. The video revealed that the labourer intentionally threw himself under the bus, around 8.15 am on Sunday, at Munangwada. Rumours spread quickly in Morjim, initially accusing the KTC bus driver of causing the death. Off-duty KTC drivers arrived at the scene, expressing solidarity with their colleague. Migrant women labourers present at the scene also defended the driver, asserting that the deceased had taken voluntary action.
After about an hour, the police examined the CCTV footage, providing clarity on the circumstances. The motive behind the suicide remains unclear.
Pernem Police, led by PSI Navnit Goltekar under the guidance of PI Sachin Lokre, is investigating the case. The deceased’s body has been sent to Goa Medical College for autopsy, and Pernem police conducted the panchanama as part of their inquiry.
