Migrants have a field day at Mungul, set up movable carts, kiosks by the roadside

Locals hit out at panchayat; allege civic body ignoring issue

MARGAO: Taking serious note of the movable carts and kiosks erected by migrants on the border of Mungul and Seraulim near the wholesale fish market, citizens have expressed their anger and demanded their immediate removal.

In a complaint filed before the Village Panchayat Seraulim, a group of citizens charged the authorities for turning a blind eye to the issue. They alleged that the panchayat had consistently neglected their concerns about the illegal activities and environmental problems associated with the wholesale fish market and related vendors.

Croydon Madeira, a citizen of Fatorda complainant, alleged that numerous individuals, primarily migrants, have set up movable carts, kiosks, and parking vehicles along the Mungul Colva Road, which falls within the jurisdiction of Seraulim.

He highlighted that these roadside setups are not only obstructing the traffic but also contributing to significant disorder and environmental degradation.

“These roadside activities are causing a total nuisance besides being an eyesore, especially since the road has just been widened,” he stated. “Roads are not a place for commercial activity or hawking and should be kept free of any such activities.”

Madeira also alleged that a food cart has been erected on top of a drain by a migrant vendor, who has extended the setup with a shade and added tables and chairs.

Madeira has warned that if the illegal food carts and kiosks are not removed immediately, he will be compelled to approach the court.
