Migrants rush to board Vasco-Patna train

VASCO: With the State reporting a sudden spike in COVID cases and deaths, over 500 migrant workers on Wednesday gathered outside the Vasco Railway Station to board the Vasco-Patna express train.

The workers and their family members looked panicked and were eagerly waiting to board the Patna express train at Vasco station.

A migrant, who was waiting for the train in hot sun since morning, said “Due to several villages in Goa opting for the lockdown, our quest to earn livelihood has become more difficult. If not COVID, the daily wage workers will surely die of starvation”.

“Several messages about the deadly virus are been circulated on the social media which is the reason of our departure. I feel it is better to go back to our native places and carry out agricultural and dairy activities to be safe and earn our daily bread”, another migrant said.
