MAPUSA: Homeless migrants living in shanties around the Mapusa bus stand have made the nearby gardens and parks their drying areas with clothes put out to dry on the plants, the municipality has planted for the city’s décor.
This is not the first time that clothes have been found spread on the plants near Hotel Braganza which in all likelihood have been put out to dry by the migrants, even though the municipality staff and the Mapusa police have warned them not to do so. The municipality has also seized their belongings so that they stop putting the clothes on the plants.
Locals expressed that this is giving an ugly look to the city as people enter Mapusa. People have demanded Mapusa municipality take strict action to solve this issue.
“This is the fifth or sixth time where I have directed the municipal staff to clear it. Migrants who stay in open spaces put their clothes on the plants and even after warnings by the police and MMC staff,” MMC Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar said.
