VASCO: Congress leader Sankalp Amonkar has termed the objection of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik to bring and store naphtha at Ganesh Banzoplast at Bogda, a stunt to garner sympathy and support of the local people.
Amonkar opined that for the safety of people this vessel should be taken to deep sea and there the unloading of naphtha be done with utmost precaution. He said that he would not allow storing of naphtha at Ganesh Banzoplast.
Briefing the media on Thursday, Amonkar questioned the move of Minister Naik in opposing the storage of naphtha at Ganesh Banzoplast and termed it as a “stunt” to garner sympathy and support of the local people.
Amonkar mentioned that Naik had once told the media that the vessel contains sludge and naphtha’s potency has degenerated. “Then, how come suddenly Naik is saying that the naphtha is volatile and started raising concern over safety of the people?” Amonkar questioned.
He also demanded that an inquiry be conducted to find out who was behind bringing this unmanned vessel to MPT port. “Once this is done, Milind Naik will be exposed and to avoid such a situation, he is now opposing bringing naphtha to Ganesh Banzoplast,” Amonkar argued.
“The tanks where the naphtha is being planned to be stored are not surveyed and the pipeline from Port to Ganesh Banzoplast facility was not used for many years as per my information,” he claimed.
When asked about his stand on this issue, Amonkar stated that at no cost he would allow naphtha to be bought and stored at Ganesh Banzoplast storage facility at Bogda. “If needed, we will physically go to the site and will stop the storage process,” Amonkar added.
