Milk producers accuse govt of trying to privatise Goa Dairy

SAL: Various milk co-operatives from Bicholim got together on Thursday and accused the government of trying to privatise Goa Dairy. “There are 200 farmers who are associated with the Sal union, out of which 53 are currently producing milk. In total, 780 litres of milk is produced every day. However, the farmers are yet to receive their subsidies since last nine months, which amount to Rs 16 lakh,” Chairman of Shri Bhumika Dudh Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha, Adinath Parab  informed.

“Cost of buying one cow under the Kamdhenu scheme was Rs 18,000 as the subsidy was 40 per cent. If the same cow is bought from Koparde village, then it costs around Rs 70,000,” added Parab. “The subsidies have been pending for nine months. When we inquired, we were told that the Goa Dairy does not have staff to prepare the bills,” said Mahadev Gaddi, a member of Nandini Dudh Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha, Ladfe.
