MARCEL, APRIL 16
The board of directors of Goa Dairy on Friday decided to hike milk prices in the State by Rs 2 per litre from May 1.
Goa Dairy Chairman Mhadav Sahakari said the hike in selling price of the milk was inevitable with the rise in purchase price of milk from other states.
“Currently, we are purchasing 60,000 litres of milk from Maharastra. Since the last few days, they have increased the price by Rs 3 to Rs 4 on different varieties of milk,” said Sahakari.
“To avoid losses to the Goa Dairy, we at the board of directors meeting decided to hike the selling price of milk by Rs 2. With this hike, our State milk farmers will also get a raise of Rs 1.5 in the selling price,” he added.
This is the second price hike this year, as earlier in February, the milk prices were hiked by Rs 2 per litre.
