PANJIM: Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) chairman Dayanand Sopte refused to pin the blame on GoaMiles for the issues faced by the local taxi drivers.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, Ajgaonkar, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said that Goa Miles was introduced because of the various problems caused by local taxi drivers. He recalled how they refused to install a meter, complained about high prices, etc, and said that in comparison, they don’t get complaints from customers about GoaMiles and if at all they have to take action; there is someone at GoaMiles who can be held accountable.

He added that the present issues raised by the local taxi group are being handled by the Transport Director. Goa Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Dayanand Sopte said the government is listening to the demands raised by the local taxi group but that the onus is on them for the issue to get resolved.
