PANJIM: Minister for Women and Child Development Vishwajit Rane has been nominated as a member of Centre’s constituted committee to review the functioning of CHILDLINE — a 24X7 emergency phone outreach service for children in crisis.
“(Union) Minister, Women and Child Development (WCD) (Smriti Irani) has constituted a committee to review the functioning of CHILDLINE. She has nominated you (Rane) as a member of the Committee. I shall be grateful if you could confirm your participation in the proceedings of the Committee,” letter by Debashree Chaudhuri of the WCD, Delhi said in a written communiqué to Rane.
The WCD is implementing Child Protection Services, a Centrally sponsored scheme, for providing institutional and non-institutional care and protection to vulnerable children in the country.
The scheme also has a component of a helpline for children — CHILDLINE which links children in crisis to emergency and long term care and rehabilitation services. The service can be accessed by any child in crisis or an adult on their behalf by dialing the four digit toll free number 1098.
