Mines dept refrains from taking action against accused staff

PANJIM: With Ponda police yet to inform the Mines and Geology Department regarding the arrests of two of its employees on charges of cheating, the latter is left with no option but to refrain itself from initiating departmental action against both as of now.

PANJIM: With Ponda police yet to inform the Mines and Geology Department regarding the arrests of two of its employees on charges of cheating, the latter is left with no option but to refrain itself from initiating departmental action against both as of now. 
Assistant data entry operator Siddesh Borkar, from Malbhat in Margao and lower division clerk Ramchandra Verlekar from Shiroda were arrested from the headquarters in Panjim, last Thursday for allegedly duping seven job seekers to the tune of Rs 40 lakh after promising them government jobs. 
Assistant Director, Mines, Parag Nagarcekar said the police are still to inform the department regarding the same. “Unless we are informed in black and white about the case, we cannot take action (against Borkar and Verlekar) … based on the status report of the case, we will decide action against them,” he told Herald when asked whether department has placed them under suspension or departmental inquiry initiated.   
Ponda Police Inspector C L Patil, when contacted, assured to submit a report to the Mines Department on Monday. “We are preparing a report mentioning involvement of the two mines employees in the scam. Report will be submitted on Monday,” he said. 
Damodar Naik of Vaze-Shiroda had alleged in a police complaint he was assured a job as tax inspector and had paid Rs 5 lakh to Borkar in 2011 but he was cheated. 
According to police, the other six jobs assured were two police sub inspectors, one in the fire force, one as network engineer in government IT department, one as commercial tax inspector and another as transport guard. Both the alleged accused are presently on bail, Patil said.
