MARGAO: Three individuals, including two young schoolboys, were seriously injured in a collision between a minibus and a scooter at Raia junction on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred when the scooter rider, identified as Marcus Fernandes, 42, was traveling with his son Milroy and his friend Brandan, both approximately 12 years old, from the Raia football ground towards Loutolim.
The injured boys are students at a school in Loutolim.
Marcus Fernandes has been admitted to the South Goa District Hospital, while the two boys have been taken to the Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim. Sources said that one boy has sustained a fracture and is expected to recover, but the other is undergoing treatment for head injuries.
According to Pi Ravi Dessai of the Maina-Curtorim Police Station, the bus, carrying approximately 25 passengers, was traveling from Shiroda towards Margao, when it crashed into Fernandes’ scooter.
Head Constable Prassana Prabhugaonker promptly visited the scene, conducted a panchanama, and facilitated the removal of the passenger bus and the scooter from the accident spot to restore smooth traffic flow. In the wake of the accident, a large number of concerned locals from villages Raia and Loutolim rushed to the scene, expressing their worry about the increasing number of accidents in the area.
