Minimal cut in fuel prices will not help BJP to keep voter discontent at bay: Cong

MAPUSA: The North Goa District District Committee President Vijay Bhike on Saturday stated that minimal reduction in fuel prices will not help the BJP to keep voter discontent at bay.

“The decision to hike fuel price definitely had an impact on the recent bypoll results and that’s why the government decided to reduce excise duty,” claimed Bhike.

One can recall that the Central government on Wednesday announced a reduction in Excise Duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 10 per litre, on the eve of Diwali.

Bhike pointed out that high inflation remains one of the major concerns in the minds of voters. Over the years, fuel tariff politics has been an effective method adopted by the government at the Centre. It is nothing but a mere vote garnering machinery prior to the elections.

“This decision definitely comes as a relief to the citizens, but the fluctuation of fuel prices is politically motivated which is taking a toll on the common man. The price of essential commodities, fuel and LPG should be affordable to the common man. We demand that the price be further reduced, failing which Congress will continue to protest till the prices are dropped drastically,” said Bhike.
