CURCHOREM: The mining dependent people called on Quepem MLA and Opposition Leader Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar at his residence at Betul-Quepem on Thursday and submitted a letter requesting him to urge the Central government to take urgent resolution on the mining issue in Goa.
“Being an MLA from the mining belt, you are well aware of situation of mining dependents in the State and the hardships that people are facing for the past 15 months. Many have lost their jobs, many trucks have been repossessed by the banks and the people are on the verge of losing their houses,” they stated in the letter.
Assuring them total support, Kavlekar said that they would seek an answer from the government during the coming assembly session.
“Now the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is from mining belt and the other two MLAs Nilesh Cabral and Deepak Pauskar are also from the mining belt, therefore, I hope that they will work to resume the mining in the State immediately,” Kavlekar said and stressed that the Congress has always supported the mining dependent people and would continue to support them till the issue is solved.
