PANJIM: Mining dependents under the banner of Goa Mining People’s Front, on Thursday claimed that the loan defaulters are facing recovery proceedings from the banks and other financial institutes and called for intervention of State and Union government to stop the banks from attaching the properties of defaulters.

Naik said that the loans are turning into Non Performing Assets for banks due to the 12 months of mining closure.
“People’s residential and other personal assets are being attached by the banks in order to recover the loans advanced to them,” he stated.
Naik said that one Prataprao Chandrakant Desai, a truck owner, living in Sankhali area committed suicide, because he was served notices by the bank.
The delegation of GMPF on May 20 and 21 met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar with their grievances.
Naik said that the GMPF during their meeting with the chief minister has requested him to pursue with the Ministry of Finance and Reserve Bank of India to relax or restructure and defer the repayment of loans got from financial institutions and waive the interest.
The government has already announced that it would demand a financial package of Rs 3,000 crore to Goa to look after mining dependent people.
