Mining dependents postpone July 19 morcha to Goa Assembly

PONDA: The Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) has postponed the July 19 morcha to Goa Assembly, following the assurances given by all the ministers and MLAs to pass a resolution in Goa assembly to amend Section 2 of Goa Daman and Diu Mining Concession Abolition Act 1987, to make way for ordinance by Central Government for immediate restart of mining.
Addressing the media, GMPF President Puti Gaonkar said that most of the MLAs and ministers have assured to pass a resolution in Goa Assembly to amend in Section 2 of Goa Daman and Diu Mining Concession Abolition Act. 
“Therefore, we have decided to wait and see whether such resolution is listed in assembly proceeding and questionnaire. If such resolution is not listed in proceeding of assembly period from 19 July to August 3, then, we will definitely lead a morcha to assembly during this assembly session on any date that will be decided later,” he said.
Gaonkar said that the objective intention of the morcha is to pressure the government to bring resolution in assembly in favour of amending Section 2 of the Goa Daman and Diu Mining Concession Abolition Act, 1987. 
Meanwhile, All Goa Barge Owners Association President Atul Jadhav said that the Goa Assembly should pass a resolution for immediate start of mining, as it is necessary for survival of mining dependents. 
He claimed that barge owners have almost scrapped 50 percent of barges out of total 366 barges. Besides, the barge owners have yet to repay several crores loans for which they need government support.

Mining dependents to hold rally in Sanquelim on Monday
BICHOLIM: Mining allied activities dependents have decided to hold a massive rally on July 16 from Amona to Sanquelim and submit memorandum to the local MLA. Mining dependents leader Nilkhant Gawas said that there are several industries dependent on mining and if mining remains closed then these industries would be severely hit. He said that there is pig iron and cock industry at Amona that supplies goods all over India. If this industry closes down then there would be grave problem for the people from Amona and Navelim who are employed in the industry. “We have decided to submit a memorandum in this regard to the local MLA Dr Pramod Sawant and would hold a rally from Amona to Ravindra Bhavan Sanquelim where we would submit the memo,” Gawas said. He said that more than one thousand people are expected to participate in the rally.
