Mining trader remanded to police custody

PANJIM: The Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act on Tuesday remanded arrested mining trader Philip Jacob to seven days of police custody.

PANJIM: The Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act on Tuesday remanded arrested mining trader Philip Jacob to seven days of police custody. 
The Kerala-native was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Monday evening for his alleged involvement in illegal trade and theft of iron ore in Goa from 2007 to 2011. A preliminary investigation revealed that his firm Amalagiris had a turnover of over Rs 500 crore and scrutiny of his firm’s bank statements indicated transactions in the form of RTGS in different banks amounting to more than Rs 300 crore received from different exporters and thereafter paid to mine owners in Goa 
Different lease holders, influential politicians and bureaucrats in the Mines Department and IBM Goa, Mines Ministry in Goa have come under the police radar for alleged criminal conspiracy for theft.
