CURCHOREM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is hopeful that mining transport activities could be resumed in the State by February.
Parrikar was speaking after inaugurating the new parallel bridge over River Kushawati at Quepem on Monday evening. The project had been delayed for seven years, since the foundation stone was laid in 2007.
Speaking further, Parrikar said his government has never differentiated while carrying out progress in any constituency.
“We gave preference for the development as per the needs of the people,” said Parrikar and assured to give many more new projects in Quepem constituency.
“There is a possibility that mining transport activities could resume in the State by February,” stated Parrikar.
PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar stated that South Goa would get 24-hour water supply once the JICA projects come up in 2015 and urged the people to preserve water.
Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Sanguem MLA Subash Phaldessai, Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Dayesh Naik and Quepem Deputy Collector were present among others.
Expressing happiness over the inauguration, Kavlekar said the long-pending demand of the people of Quepem had been fulfilled.
The old bridge which was constructed by Portuguese during its regime connecting Tilamol and Quepem to Rivona, Curchorem and Ambaulim, is little narrow and more than 50 years old. Traffic on this route has also been increased substantially and people had demanded to construct a new bridge.
Heeding to the long-pending demand, Kavlekar took the initiative and the foundation stone was laid on March 21, 2007, by the then chief minister Pratapsing Rane.
