MARGAO: The Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) has welcomed the decision of Minister for Cooperation and Consumer Affairs Govind Gaude to appoint administrators to address the affairs of the Visionaries Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd and looks forward to the early return of the hard earned money of the depositors.
The Registrar of Co-operative Societies Vikas Gaunekar on Friday issued the order appointing three Administrators to handle the affairs of the Visionaries Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd which has offices at Loutolim, Majorda, Colva and Ramnagri.
The Co-operative Credit Society had run into problems due to its inability to return money to the depositors whose fixed deposits had matured.
Following this, GWF had submitted a letter to Gaude highlighting the need to focus on women for redressal of consumer complaints & financial literacy awareness programmes and sought his intervention in the matter of the Visionaries Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd.
GWF highlighted the need for a district level officer under Registrar of Coop Societies to deal with consumer complaints in North & South Goa on a fortnightly basis on a fixed day, time and venue.
GWF had also focused on the need for District level and Taluka level financial literacy awareness Programmes for women to take preventive action so that they do not get cheated by false offers and get misguided by elements who wish to take advantage of their hard earned money.
GWF had emphasized that such proactive steps would definitely get the support of the elected women representatives in panchayats and municipal councils, self help groups, mahila mandals and consumer forums.
Moreover, GWF had pointed out that if the Registrar of Coop Societies with the assistance of the Department of Consumer Affairs acts in a time bound manner, the Co-operative sector would grow in leaps & bounds with the positive participation of women.
GWF now looks forward to a concrete proposal from the Registrar of Co-operatives Societies and the Department of Consumer Affairs in this regards on December 24 on the occasion of National Consumer Rights Day.
