CUNCOLIM: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijay Sardesai on Thursday met the Cutbona boat owners at the jetty and assured to meet their pending demands.
The boat owners brought to the notice of the minister different issues affecting them.
Claiming the River Sal has been blocked with sand and garbage, they demanded that the river be desilted to ensure the smooth movement of fishing boats. They even called upon the minister to complete the work on new jetty on a war footing. They also brought to the notice of the minister the problems faced by the trawler owners with regards to transfer of the ownership rights of vessels and urged him to solve these grievances before the fishing season.
Fisheries Minister Vinod Patekar, who was scheduled to visit Cutbona jetty failed to attend the meeting due to some urgent work.
Meanwhile, a special meeting has been convened on July 16 at the Secretariat, Porvorim to discuss the boat owners’ issues. The meeting will be attended by Fisheries Minister and Fisheries Department officials.
