VASCO: Minister for Panchayat Mauvin Godinho has said that there has been a demand for the bifurcation of Chicalim Panchayat area.
“Due to the growing population in Chicalim, this demand can be considered given that it should come from the people and he doesn’t wish to push decisions down the throat of the people in a hurry,” Godinho said.
Godinho was speaking to reporters during the launching of sewerage line network in Chicalim on Saturday morning.
He said that there is a demand to bifurcate Chicalim Panchayat, but maintained that it is too early to comment on this issue.
“If the demand comes from the people through the gram sabha and the sarpanch and panchas, I will definitely consider bifurcation of Chicalim Panchayat into Dabolim and Chicalim Panchayats. Let the demand come officially, because I don’t want to force anything down the throat of the people,” Godinho said.
“Bogmalo was bifurcated from Chicalim Panchayat. Today the people of both the panchayats are happy considering the large development works taken up in both the panchayats,” he said.
On the developmental works in his constituency, he said, “Chicalim will be the first panchayat in Goa to have its own plant with Material Recovery Facility (MRF), catalytic converter to handle wet waste and will also be the panchayat to collect garbage after segregation from every house.”
He informed that the tender for a mini-garbage treatment plant that could produce power out of wet waste will be tendered on Monday.
“We will soon have an e-tender for the project and we will also utilise the funds of Rs 15 crore got from Airport Authority of India under CSR. We will soon have a plant with a catalytic converter that will convert wet waste into power,” he said.
Meanwhile, the minister said that the sewage network connection would benefit around 250 families in the locality.
“Emphasis is being laid on laying sewage lines and sewage connection. The people in the area are inconvenienced with overflowing septic tanks because the strata of the area is such that sewage water comes up instead of going down and flows outside and hence this work was of utmost importance,” Godinho said.
