PONDA: Observing that trees leaning on houses and roads are causing heavy loss to the owners and the electricity department, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Wednesday directed the deputy collectors to conduct surveys in their respective jurisdictions and issue orders to cut the dangerous trees leaning on roads, highways as well as on houses.
He pointed out that considering the heavy losses suffered by the people and the electricity department due to falling of trees, it is better to cut down the dangerous ones.
He informed that the PWD would bear the cost of cutting trees and that mamlatdars, local panchayats, forest officials, agricultural officials should cooperate with each other in cutting these dangerous trees in their respective areas.
The minister also observed that a number of uprooted trees fall on electric lines and poles resulting in frequent power failures.
Meanwhile, taking note of the criticism by Ponda MLA regarding potholed roads, Sudin directed the assistant engineers to repair the pothole ridden roads within 48 hours of receiving complaints.
Rejecting the allegations of the Ponda MLA that the PWD and Sewerage Department have conducted substandard road and sewerage lines, the PWD minister declared that the pipelines laid for sewerage lines would last for 100 years.
