PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has proposed to send nurses to different hospitals across the country to undergo training in their specific healthcare areas, to deliver highest care to the patients.
His proposal comes at the time when select doctors of the Goa Medical College and Hospital are sent abroad to undergo training in their respective areas, with the latest being Dr Teresa Pereira, the head of department of neurology, whose month-long training in the US is approved by the State government.
“We are sending doctors abroad to get training in their respective areas. Recently, the government has cleared the file wherein Dr Teresa will be sent to study stroke management. At the same level, certain specialised staff and nurses need to be trained for any other specialised care so that we can get the best out of these nurses. We want to select some nurses – for specialised care and for specialised facilities – whether they are dealing with children, ICU, MICU, etc. They need to be sent to different hospitals outside Goa for training in that healthcare,” he told a gathering while launching new uniforms for the present batch of nurses at a function in the Capital on Sunday.
Lauding various positive changes introduced in the health care during his tenure, Rane also assured to start the first emergency room (that was shut down about five years ago) and come up with a system wherein the 108 Ambulance would also have a doctor on board. “We want to make our department very sensitive,” he said.
The minister also assured to resolve various issues concerning the nurses including transfers to far off places. He expressed the need for a recruitment policy to take care of the logistics, etc.
“It is not feasible for a nurse living in a particular place and posted at a far off hospital, to deliver his/her best. Most of the time will go in their travel. We need to create awareness on these lines and as such, we need to come out with a recruitment policy to take care of the logistics, etc,” he said.
claiming the government is committed to providing good healthcare to its people.
