VASCO: Terming the Mini India Project as “harmless” and would create jobs for the residents of Cortalim, Quelossim and Mormugao taluka, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has urged the people to welcome the same.
Addressing a walkathon event organised by National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, on Saturday, the minister stated that the Mini India Project should not be opposed as there won’t be construction taking place on that land. “The Mini India Project will comprise of replicas of famous monuments from and outside Goa,” he said.
“As per the initial plan, a starred luxury hotel was to come up which would have given lots of jobs for the locals. But due to strong oppose from the locals, the idea of luxury hotel was dropped. Now there won’t be any construction taking place at the site. So, there is no reason to oppose such good project which will also bring revenue to the local governing bodies,” he said.
Taking an indirect jibe at Cortalim MLA Alina Saldhana, Godinho said that the government representatives should not side with those who are doing over activism and should promote such projects that bring development to the villages.
On Friday an NGO had expressed concern about destruction of khazan lands from Quelossim and had opposed the Mini India Project. Even the Quellosim gram sabha has objected to this project.
