MARGAO: The construction work on the Chapora Riverfront project has been halted since 2016 on the orders of the National Green Tribunal. During that time, the present WRD Minister Vinod Palyekar had accused his predecessor Dayanand Mandrekar of taking up projects that were not in the interest of the public.
Palyekar now wants the project to take off. Sources in the Water Resources Departmenthave revealed that the WRD Minister has directed the officials to expedite the work on the Chapora Riverfront project. Two months ago, Palyekar issued an office note to the Water Resources Department directing them to expedite the work “despite the court order”.
The officials of Water Resources Department confirmed that a meeting was held last week in Water Resources Department office to discuss the matter and that the construction work will commence shortly.
