Minor arrested as 4 escape after robbing church, temple

VASCO: Five unknown persons robbed a church from Cortalim and a temple from Sancoale in the wee hours of Wednesday night. After a quick search operation in the nearby area, Verna police nabbed one suspect in this matter. 
Verna PI Sandesh Chodankar said that on Wednesday night Verna police received a call about the burglary in the church premise.  “We immediately rushed at the site and noticed that some unknown persons had forcefully entered the church office by breaking the latch of the door and opened the cupboard and robbed around Rs 50,000 as per the complaint of a priest from the church. PI Chodankar later said that Verna police also heard about the issue of a temple being robbed by forcefully entering the temple by removing the iron covering of the window. The donation box was opened and the robbers stole around Rs 5,000
After learning about these incidents, police carried out a quick search in the nearby areas to check if there were any suspicious movements. 
“We discovered that five men were trying to escape from the spot. In this bid, four robbers managed to escape on their bikes and one minor suspect was nabbed by police. The minor was sent to Apna ghar,” said PI Chodankar.
He further said that priest watched the robbers on the CCTV camera and he intimidated police.  PI Chodankar also revealed that after these incidents he made personal visits to the nearby religious institutions and instructed them to be alert and follow safety guidelines.
In this case an offence is registered under Section 457, 380 r/w 34 of IPC. Further investigation is in progress said PI Chodankar.
