In view of the feast of St Francis Xavier on December 3, Traffic Department has formulated new rules and defined some arrangements. The department has made elaborative arrangements for diversions to those plying via Old Goa and vehicle parking.
“As the feast attracts a large number of devotees, we have formulated traffic arrangements like all vehicular traffic from Panjim to Ponda or other places via Old Goa will be diverted from down Mandovi Bridge to take right and proceed via Kadamba by-pass road,” reads a press note by Superintendent of (Traffic) Police Arvind Gawas.
Those attending feast will be allowed to take the normal road via Ribandar and parking will be done at Bhakia’s property, it further stated.
Besides, vehicles carrying disabled persons are permitted to enter till Old Goa Church junction and its parking is arranged in GTDC open space. The annual traffic change for the feast however does not have much change in the plan to that of last year.
The plan further reads that vehicles from Ponda towards Panjim on reaching near Dargah junction at Old Goa will be diverted on by-pass via Kadamba Road. So also, vehicles proceeding to Margao and Vasco via Neura road will be diverted via Kadamba by-pass.
The department has converted Pilar-Neura-Old Goa road in a “one-way” to avoid complications. In order to restrain heavy traffic flow passing through Old Goa, the Ponda side heavy traffic on reaching Banastari will be diverted via Amona Bridge and Mapusa side heavy traffic is being diverted via Bicholim at Karaswada.
Vehicles proceeding to Old Goa via Kadamba road will be diverted near Kamat gas station to proceed for parking at Bhakia’s property via St Augustine Tower road.
The residents in the vicinity of Old Goa complex, Diwar and Gaundalim will be allowed to take left turn near Old Goa church junction and right turn near Dargah to reach to Diwar Ferry.
Residents of Sa-Pedro desiring to proceed to Ponda via Old Goa on reaching Old Goa main junction will take left behind Se Cathedral via Arch of Conception to Old Goa petrol pump to proceed to their destinations.
