Case filed against management after students complain of cheating

The Margao police has finally registered a case against the promoter and management of Achievers Aviation Academy for allegedly cheating students enrolled with the institute.
A case under section 420 read with section 34 of the IPC has been registered against the promoter Parul Kakkar and other management officials by investigating Officer, PSI Suraj Gawas on Wednesday evening.
The police action came after a student Natly Endro, a resident of Padribhat in Sao Jose de Areal lodged a complaint against the management of the Academy.
PSI Suraj said the complainant has claimed that she had paid fees amounting to Rs 95,000 and though she has completed the course, the management has failed to impart the trainings as mentioned in the advertisement.
Incidentally, even as the police has registered the FIR against the Academy management, the fate of around 125 students hangs in balance as they have paid huge sums of money, estimated over Rs one crore, while the institute was found shut on Wednesday.
Rough estimates revealed that the students have coughed up more than Rs one crore since some of the students have paid more than Rs 1 lakh to the management to undergo the training.
The aggrieved students again turned up at the Margao police station on Wednesday morning and decided not to leave the station till the police book the promoter and other officials of the Academy management.
They claimed that certificates issued by the management are either fake or duplicate with no stamp of the institute or signature of the officials. Some of the students informed that they were told to undergo training at the Margao office after the Panjim office was closed down by the management.
At the time of the selection course, the students were promised internship, 100 per cent job assistance, campus interviews, inflight training et al, but the aggrieved students maintained that the promises have only remained on paper till date.
They have now demanded a refund of their fees by the management and are pinning hopes on the police to recover back their money.
A couple of students have paid fees amounting to over Rs 1.50 lakh, while others have ended in paying fees ranging between Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh.
Earlier in the day, Margao Sub-divisional police officer, DySP Umesh Gaonkar told newsmen that he has asked the students, who have completed three years of training, to give a formal complaint in order to proceed against the management.
He said the police would probe into the legal status of the Academy as part of the investigations.
