PORVORIM: In a shocking incident, a minor girl attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the third floor of a building on Saturday after she was kidnapped and allegedly raped by a 31-year-old man.
The Porvorim police have arrested Javed Shaikh alias Kabir for kidnapping and allegedly raping the 16-year-old girl from Brittona.
Police said that Kabir was known to the victim and on Diwali eve, he took her out on the pretext of showing her Narkasur effigies. He then took her to a secluded place at Verem where he allegedly raped her in a car and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed to anyone about the incident. But unable to bear the trauma, the victim on Saturday attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the third floor of the building and was seriously injured. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she told her relatives about the sexual assault.
Following this, the relatives filed a police complaint against Kabir.
The Porvorim police immediately arrested Javed Shaikh alias Kabir and have registered a case against him under Sections 376, 354, 342 and 363 of IPC; Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
