VERNA: There was a minor scare as a gas leakage was reported at Verna Industrial Estate on Thursday morning. The leakage occurred near the Monginis factory at Verna while workers were digging the area to lay cables.
The emergency was immediately reported to the Fire and Emergency Services (FES) Verna. The cause of the leaked gas stemmed from a damaged pipeline during excavation.
The Fire and Emergency Services (FES) Verna immediately responded to the gas leakage leading to an efficient resolution. The leaked gas was from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and was stated to be cooking gas. The rupture occurred at the joint.
Fire officer Herbert Fernandes stated that they received the call at 10:45 am, and the fire services personnel rushed to the site.
“When we arrived, we observed a significant leak, with labourers applying mud over the pipe to contain the escaping of gas. Considering the proximity to a transformer, the Electricity Department was contacted to switch off the power. The gas company officials were summoned to shut down the gas line, which they did successfully,” Fernandes reported.
With these measures in place, the gas subsided, and the area was declared safe after thorough assessments.
