SANGUEM: Students attending private tuition classes at Cotto ward in Sanguem had a narrow escape after a huge tree came crashing down on the road on Monday evening.
Sources informed that while the students were about to cross the road, heard a crashing sound and on seeing the tree falling, they fled for their lives. One student however suffered minor bruises, but the presence of mind to run away from the place saved the day for the students.
Jeston Fernandes criticised the authorities for failing to act despite having conducted a survey of old and dangerous trees in the town area.
It may be recalled that after a young housewife had died at Sanguem when a tree came crashing down on her car, the authorities conducted survey of all road side trees in the town area and many were to cut on emergency basis. However after having cut a few trees, the exercise was stopped. Are the authorities waiting for more serious incidents to take place in the locality, questioned the locals.
