PONDA: A major tragedy was averted at Ponda when the roof of the Zonal Agricultural Office, Ponda, collapsed. Luckily the incident happened at night and could have proved fatal for ZAO office employees during the day. The ZAO office has temporarily been shifted to Market Yard at Curti Ponda
It is learnt that several employees work in the seven rooms of the ZAO building. However the roofs collapsed in two rooms of the building where six employees work during the day. Luckily the incident take place at night.
Meanwhile, farmers who saw the roof of the dilapidated building collapsed, blamed government for negligence and were furious to see the plight of the employees. They said the government has money for organizing events but fails to spend on timely repairs of such dilapidated govt building.
This ZAO office of the Agriculture department is providing services to the citizens of a total of 19 panchayats of Ponda Taluka. Several employees and officers work in this office.
The incident occurred on Saturday early morning. The employees were shocked to see collapsed building, when they had arrived at the office on Monday two days after the incident. Huge wooden rafter and beams had collapsed along with roof tiles of two rooms where six employees were to be working.
Following this the Office of the ZAO has been shifted to Market Yard Ponda. However since the farmers were not informed about the shifting of the office, they were furious since first the visited the Office where the roof had collapsed and then had to visit the ZAO office at Market Yard at Curti Ponda where the office was shifted.
