Major cracks have developed on the Miramar-Dona Paula concrete road which is yet to be completed. Some of the gaps are almost an inch wide leading to questions on the quality of the concrete road.
As Team Herald inspected the stretch from Miramar to NIO Circle to Raj Bhavan it was revealed that there were major cracks, which could be clearly seen especially along the NIO circle to Raj Bhavan road.
Speaking to Herald, Sanvordem MLA and Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Chairman, Deepak Pauskar admitted the fact that the concretised road had indeed developed cracks. “I have spoken to the contractor that is M V Rao Infra Projects Pvt Ltd and have already asked the contractor to rectify the works.”
GSIDC had awarded the entire contract for Rs 72.59 crore to M V Rao with the contractor commencing the work in February 2014 for which the GSIDC had initially given the contractor a deadline of 18 months to complete the project. However, it missed many deadlines and was finally thrown open to public on August 22, 2016.
“The government has spent almost Rs 100 crore for the construction of the road and today what we are greeted with are the huge cracks which have developed on the entire stretch of the road. The contractor has poorly executed the works. It is a waste of public money,” said Anif Qureshi, a resident of Miramar.
It was further revealed that GSIDC had also used a rubber like material called the epoxy resin in a bid to stop the cracks from widening but it was noticed that the same had come off.
Another resident of Caranzalem, Darshan Sardesai had this to say, “The hot mix road was far better than the existing concrete road which has already developed cracks. The government should have focused on the traditional hot mix method rather than the concrete.”
It may be recalled that following Herald’s series of reports over cracks which had developed earlier along the Miramar-Dona Paula concrete road, former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar inspected the entire stretch and had ordered the chief secretary to submit a detailed report.
Meanwhile, it was also noticed that some of the manholes along the stretch were missing which in turn could lead to a disaster in the monsoons especially for the two-wheeler riders.
