Miscreants hurl stone at Digambar Kamat’s office

Supporters file complaint, demand immediate arrest of culprits

MARGAO: Unknown persons pelted a stone at the office of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, shattering a pane of the front door on Sunday evening. The office staff and Kamat’s supporters have filed a complaint with the Margao police and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Onlookers have alleged that two masked men on a two-wheeler without a license plate threw the stone at the office and fled the area. In the evening, a huge crowd of Kamat’s supporters and the 11 candidates of his ‘Model Margao’ marched to the office of the Superintendent of Police to register a complaint.
“In my 22 years of politics in Margao, this kind of incident has never happened. I am being targeted by some powers,” said Kamat while interacting with the press, adding, “The support of Madgaonkars to me will be seen on the 27th – the result day – and nothing is going to affect me.”
Meanwhile, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has condemned the attack on Kamat’s office and demanded the arrest of the attackers and mastermind within 48 hours. It has also demanded a fair investigation into the incident.
A press statement issued by GPCC General Secretary Sunil Kawthankar claimed that two men on a white Activa had pelted a big stone at the glass pane of the office door. He further said, “It is very unfortunate that a former chief minister’s office, which is just below his residence, was attacked in broad daylight. This exposes the collapsed law and order of the State and proves that the common man is not safe anymore.”
He continued, “An attack of this scale on a political leader of the Congress cannot be executed without the support and blessing of some mastermind. It is necessary that the mastermind should be arrested.”
