PANJIM: People were in for an early morning rude shock, when prices of diesel and petrol were hiked by the oil PSUs on Wednesday. The 80 paise hike, comes for a second day in a row, after they had been increased by 80 paise on Tuesday. The price of petrol will now be Rs 97.67, diesel will cost Rs 88.87. This comes days after declaration of election results in five States, including Goa.
The price of petrol was Rs 96.37 on Monday, which rose to Rs 96.87 on Tuesday. The price of diesel was Rs 87.48 on Monday, which climbed to Rs 88.07 on Tuesday, causing outrage among the people.
Domestic cooking gas (LPG) price has been hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder and a 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 963.50 in Goa.
Shubham Shivolkar said, “The aam aadmi, be it a servant, milkman, peon or farmer, have been badly affected, due to the now daily rise in fuel costs. Due to the rise in fuel costs the price of other commodities is rising; be it the costs of oil, soya bean, milk vegetables, grains, etc.”
“Everyone is feeling the pinch, whether rich or poor. We are hearing for last many years that acche din will come. Are these the acche din? Is this the reason why we elected them?” an angry Shivolkar asked.
He added, “On behalf of the people, I ask the government to reduce the taxes on fuel and cooking gas. This is our earnest request to you. If this is done prices of other goods will come down.”
Another two-wheeler rider in Panjim seemed to be resigned to his fate. While filling petrol in his vehicle at a fuel station in Panjim, on Wednesday, he said, “The petrol prices have risen, but what can we do about it? We have to fill petrol any way.”
