PONDA: A massive traffic jam was witnessed on Tuesday at Khandepar OPA junction, after an accident between two trucks at midnight on Monday.
The traffic jam lasted for four hours, from 7 am to 11 am; and one could see vehicles queuing up for nearly four kilometres on both the sides of the old bridge at Khandepar.
Multiple sources said that the traffic jam completely blocked the movement of Khandepar villagers and school children. And finding the police helpless in tackling the traffic, the Khandepar locals diverted the traffic through an under construction four-lane Khandepar bridge.
Sources said that this traffic diversion helped to clear the village main road of the long queue of vehicles. Consequently, the easing of traffic jam facilitated the students to reach their respective schools in time for their exams.
The new Khandepar Bridge is constructed parallel to old Khandepar Bridge. The new bridge is almost complete and even the road has been hot-mixed. However, work on the approach road leading to Ponda has not begun.
Meanwhile, the Khandepar villagers have appealed to the authorities to open the under construction bridge in case of traffic jam and also during school going and leaving hours to prevent the students from getting caught in traffic jam.
