PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the error in the Supreme Court judgement on Rafale was due to misinterpretation of the facts by the people who drafted the order.
The Supreme Court had given a clean chit and found no evidence of wrongdoing in the government’s decision-making process, as it rejected petitions for an investigation into the Rafale deal on Friday.
However, the Centre has moved an application in the Supreme Court for correction in the Rafale judgment passed on Friday. The application was regarding the submission of the report of the Controller and Auditor General of India (CAG) on the pricing issue of the Rafale jets, and its status before Parliament. Following the Rafale verdict, the BJP has decided to clear the “misinformation” spread by the Congress throughout the country by holding press conferences in 70 places.
BJP national vice president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, who addressed the media today in Goa said the Congress is spreading lies in the country.
“The principal Opposition is even not ready to accept the verdict of the Apex Court,” said Sahasrabudde. He stated the Congress is trying to make a mountain out of mole hill. “The Congress’ narrative is even impacting the credibility of armed forces,” he said.
The BJP leader asked as to why the Congress could not finalise the deal from 2007 to 2008. “…because of the functioning on commission and omission basis. The Indian Air Force needed fighter jets badly but the Congress was busy thinking something else,” he said.
Asked why was SC misinformed about the CAG report being submitted to PAC, Sahasrabudde replied, it was an error by the officials.
“I cannot say it is mistake of SC but surely it was misinterpretation of the facts by the people who drafted the judgement. But we have on our own asked for amendment of the judgement,” he said adding “this will have no impact on the judgement.”
The BJP Rajya Sabha MP said the BJP was ready for any kind of discussion on the issue in the Parliament.
“…but the Congress is running away. They want no discussion as they have no evidence to prove. Same with SC, we thought they will file intervention petition and become party to the case but they did not as they had nothing to say,” he said.
