Misled by wine store dealers, tourists ‘pay the price’ at Mollem checkpost

Police at the checkpost state that the bill receipts do not serve as permits; left with no other option, tourists forced to sell the liquor at cheaper rates to get out of the situation

PONDA: It is no secret that Goa’s liquor attracts a large group of visitors. With the Model Code of Conduct already in force for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the tourists have landed in trouble at checkposts after being misled by wine store owners who tell them that police officials will not penalise them if they produce the bill receipts.

However, during the check, the police officials posted at various checkposts including at Mollem, stop the tourists from taking along with them the liquor bottles back to their respective States, stating that the bills do not serve as permits. Left with no other option, most tourists are forced to sell the liquor at cheaper rates to get out of the situation.

“Wine store dealers are misleading and in a way, fooling the visitors as they tell them that the police will allow them to carry alcohol if they obtain the bill receipts. However, the officials at Mollem check post are not allowing this,” said Suresh Hadfad, a driver from Mollem.
